what a beautiful powerful human being

I will always reblog this when it comes up on my dash

I hope this lady sees all the supportive reblogs. Because she deserves it.

This shit makes me ache every time it comes cross my dash.

I watched that video all of ONE time and that was enough.

She was so courageous to do this, but I see them tears on her face and I wanna KILL that motherfucker.

The OP is amazing.

The new kid in school needs a new name! Or does she?Being the new kid in school is hard enough, but what about when nobody can pronounce your name? Having just moved from Korea, Unhei is anxious that American kids will like her. So instead of introducing herself on the first day of school, she tells the class that she will choose a name by the following week. Her new classmates are fascinated by this no-name girl and decide to help out by filling a glass jar with names for her to pick from. But while Unhei practices being a Suzy, Laura, or Amanda, one of her classmates comes to her neighborhood and discovers her real name and its special meaning. On the day of her name choosing, the name jar has mysteriously disappeared. Encouraged by her new friends, Unhei chooses her own Korean name and helps everyone pronounce it —Yoon-Hey.

A lot of my PoC immigrant friends would have needed this book when they were young. You can purchase the book here.

Looks very cute and positive. Most of my own childhood memories concerning my name at school have to do with fighting those who mocked it and having it mispronounced by teachers.

As someone whose name is mispronounced to this day, I could have used this book when I was a kid

Finding out that this book exists is just like a warm hug.

This is awesome and they have it at our public library! Definitely checking it out.

SIGNAL BOOST!? Girl could be expelled from college after her activism has created an 'intimidating environment' for her rapist. PLEASE SHARE

simonedeboudoir:

UNC Chapel Hill is a school which has received a lot of recent criticism over handling of sexual assault cases, to put it mildly. In this Jezebel article they discuss how the former dean of students was told to underreport cases of sexual violence. It’s been a messy and incredibly victim blaming situation, which has resulted in students filing against the Dept of Education. The girl Andrea, quoted in both of these articles is both a survivor and a friend of mine. She is utterly remarkable and so brave and resillient despite the stuff she has faced from administrators. Another mentioned, Landen Gambill, has been told that she has violated the honour code of the school for creating an ‘intimidating environment’ for her rapist, despite the fact she has NEVER identified him by name. She asked if, by being raped, she had violated the honour code and they said yes. They said YES. I am basically shaking as I’m writing this and we need your help because this is not just a problem here, and this same stuff is probably happening across college campuses. Please, please share this, send the message out that NO ONE should ever be punished for their rape or treated the way these, and other women have been. Please help us bring some attention to this. We need you.

This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

This is why we download.

Never, EVER buy the newest edition of a book.

I PROMISE you there are cheaper alternatives, even if your professor says the old version is totally useless. 9 times out of 10, that’s completely false.
